Secure. Contain. Protect. Inscribed above the board were the words that made the initials for the SCP, the organization to which the 12 individuals sitting at desks in the room had applied. What would follow their orientation today would be a rigorous training program the likes of which they had yet to face.

"Alright, looks like we're all here." The gruff looking instructor took stock of the room. "All of you, stand up, introduce yourself by last name, age, and Z-score". He pointed at a dark skinned girl in the front to go first.

"Nichols, 20, 1850" she said in an authoritative voice, seemingly thinking that she was a private in the army.

The next to speak was a small fellow with unkempt hair. "Ivison, 18, 1770"

They went on and on down the line until a tall man said "Kelly, 24, 1980". The group turned, surprised. Nobody that old joined the SCP. An involuntary "Holy shit!" leaked out from someone. The one called Kelly turned toward the one who said, a younger man who had yet to introduce himself. "You got something to say, shitzipper?"

The other man stood up, his boyish face a bit red. "No."

The instructor grunted and pointed to him. "Since you've interrupted introductions, why don't you tell us who you are, boy?"

"Barrett, 20, 1965". Again the group turned. Kelly smirked at the name Barrett. "What the hell do you have to say, then?" Barrett fired back, face even redder then before.

"Was wondering why they let some schlub like you in, but it turns out it was just garden variety nepotism."

"It was because I was top 5 percent in the simulations, you geriatric fuck!"

"THAT'S ENOUGH!" The instructor roared. "Both of you will be silent for the duration of today."

The introductions continued, and orientation began soon after...

"It's unlikely that any of you have been in a real battle before. There will be time for that, but for now we'll be continuing with simulated battles. The agency is working on teams for all of you in the meantime. Who is going first today?"

"May as well." Said Kelly, stepping into the one side of the chamber. "Haven't lost yet, don't think it'll be a problem this time."

Upon seeing Kelly enter, Barrett rushed forward to take the other side. He was eager to finally beat that pompous asshole this time.

What a cutie! It's a shame that its later forms aren't as well loved.

Kelly strapped the helmet on and found himself in a somewhat realistic looking stadium. Looking towards the edges showed the lower pixilated viewers of the "battle" however, so keeping one's eyes forward was the best way to keep up the illusion.

In front of him as a Froakie, one of his favorites so far from his sim work. That Barrett kid had a Fennekin in front of him. This should be an easy one.

"No reason to get fancy, Froakie. Let's take care of this one nice and simple like usual. Go for a Bubble."

Barrett grimaced. He'd gotten pretty unlucky this time, getting a Fennekin to match with Kelly's Froakie. This wasn't a fair fight at all.

"Alright, let's just go ahead and put this little man out of his misery yet again, Froakie. Go for a Bubble."

Kelly liked the speed of Froakie. He'd never seen one himself, but was really coming to like the simulated versions he'd been battling with.

A second bubble was all that was needed. Upon the Fennekin's fainting, the stadium and Pokemon disappeared from view and a simple floating text box reading "Simulation Ended" took its place.

"That's enough for today, boys." Instructor Graham growled.

"How come he's always getting things with type advantages on me? It's bullshit!" Barrett whined.

"Not always man, come on now!" Kelly replied in a mocking tone. "I seem to remember kicking your ass last week with a pokemon that was weak to yours."

"God dammit, Barrett! Do you think you're just always gonna have the advantage out in the field? The point of this shit is to prepare you for what's out there. It doesn't do a great job of showing you exactly what you'll see, but you'll have to have your back against the wall and come out on top a thousand times in the real world. If you can't do it here, then you aren't ready to be an Agent."

Barrett glowered for a moment, but straightened up and returned to his seat with a "Yes, sir".

"Not bad work, Kelly. You've been the best battler of this whole lot so far. I think we'll be taking you and some others on some more... practical training very soon."
