Novoni slumped down onto the couch in the Pokémon Center, tired and cold after traveling through the rugged route, but at least Sunburst's climate was decently warm again. The Pokémon Center was unusally crowded, and Novoni sighed when she realized that all of the rooms would probably be full. No rest for the weary. I wonder where we can stay? After receiving her Pokémon from the nurses, she prepared to leave, and headed for the door. And walked straight into a girl who had been entering. "WATCH WHERE YOU'RE GOING, PUNK!" Novoni looked down and blinked. It was Minami, one of the triplet assistants that worked for Professor Ivy. And of course, the most moody. Novoni couldn't tell them apart, as they were all nearly identical, but her outburst had identified her. "Oh, er... sorry. What are you doing here?" Novoni asked tiredly. "We're here for the festival," one of the other triplets replied (Novoni could tell the other two apart). "You got a Pokémon from the Professor like, a while ago, didn't you? What's your name?" "Novoni Midura." "Ah, right. This is convenient, actually. Have you checked on your Pokémon at the lab lately?" "Well, not in person," Novoni said. "But I switch my team out pretty frequently..." "You have a bunch of newborn Pokémon, I think." "I... huh?" Novoni blinked. "We keep tabs on the Pokémon Eggs, and they belong to the trainers who own the parents. Hang on, I have a list somewhere," she said, pulling out a small Poketch-like device. She handed it to Novoni. "But, I... I can't take care of all of them. I don't even know when I'll be able to go back to see them, they don't know me," she said. The triplet (was it Konami?) shrugged. "Then trade them. The Festival draws in a lot of people, and you're a registered breeder, according to your information profile, so you'll be able to find them good trainers," she shrugged again (maybe it was Tsunami). "Some trainer just arrived from the Solstice Island Resort," the other triplet added. "Apparently, he found a nest of young Island Dratini that need trainers." Novoni nodded. An Island Dratini, that would be a neat Pokémon. It didn't solve her problem of having to take care of all her Pokémon, but she figured that, while they were at the Lab, they were Ok, and after the Orange Islands League, she'd be able to return and help train them a bit. As she walked away, the triplets looked at each other. "Uh.. we never found her Silkrane," one murmured. "That was totally your fault. We've never lost a Pokémon at the lab before. Well, I haven't." "It was not, Konami was on duty that day!" "Hey, don't look at me, Minami's the one that threw a fit 'cause she claimed it called her a 'Grimy Feramur'." "Heh, oh yeah, the 'talking' Silkrane." "IT DID TOO SAY THAT!" ---- Novoni headed to the main square, where there were, as the triplets had said, many trainers seeking out trades. After a few hours she'd now collected a Brizaur, a Fercoa, a Trapinch, and Island Dratini. Still not entirely sure what to do with them, she had them transferred back to the lab, where they'd at least have plenty of space to roam. Lyranya was still walking close behind her, but seemed tired. Maybe I'd better let her rest for a bit. She's been through so much, and she's really tough, but she seems to get worn out quickly. Maybe she just needs some rest... "That's a lovely Aureon you've got there," a man's voice said behind her. She recognized it, and spun around. "Dad!" "Hiya, Novi. I'm a bit surprised you're here already. Thought you'd be back in Zeralis after that Clarimata," Dr. Midura said. He was sitting at a table outside a small cafe by the Sunburst Square. Novoni looked at him, puzzled. "I have... Aruna..." "No, this," he said, handing her a newspaper. She took it, and read the first page's headline. "'An unidentified large, dark, bird-like Pokémon and a glowing green Clarimata..' It's... it's Valyth, isn't it?" "It appears so. But the glowing cat has me a bit puzzled. Novoni thought for a moment, and took out her small Orb. "It's an Orb Guardian. It must be." "I see... actually, I don't. Orb Guardian?" Novoni explained her encounter with the Golden Brahmos, and her father nodded. "Ah, so strange, spirit Pokémon have been in charge of these orbs? Curious that none of them have been found before. Or at least that no one has searched for them before. I suppose few actually knew they existed." Novoni thought for a moment. "Do you think a lot of people knew Valyth existed?" "No, I don't. Or, if they did, they're keeping it under wraps. Probably not very good publicity for a new League to announce that a monstrous, power-hungry, anciend legendary Pokémon has been released, you know? Nor would it be good if the names of the trainers who released it got out..." he added. "I said, it wasn't my fault!" "No, of course not," he chuckled. "It was probably inevitable." "What?" "The three deities' release is probably unavoidable. Actually, with one already free, I can almost certainly say the others will come, too. Though exactly when is anyone's guess. But that's what Sunrise is looking at, of course. How the three relate to each other. Or, that's part of it, at least. The part they're telling us." "You don't seem very convinced about Sunrise's 'goals' or whatever they may be," Novoni said. "Why did you join them, then?" "Why did you?" "I... I don't know. They always seemed the least involved out of the four Zeralian Teams, I guess. And at the time, it seemed like an easy pass back into Zeralis," she said after a moment. "They seem that way, yes. But it's hard to say. But... why are you so intent about going back to Zeralis?" "I, well... it's our home. And it was just nothing like Johto, which was really nice, too, but... I don't know. And I guess I still had this idea of going back there and everything going back to normal, with all of us, and Kimba," she said, looking directly at her father as she said the last word. Dr. Midura sighed. "I don't think things will return to normal there for a while. To be honest, they weren't when we still lived there. We were just better at hiding it then." "Speaking of hiding," Novoni cut in. "Why did you disappear for so long?" "Ah. I guess you're obligated to know now." "I should think so. I'm only your daughter." "No, it's not that. It's that I saw that you had evidence of my work." "What are you talking about?" she forgot how annoying it could be when her father talked in his sort of code. "I'm talking about, what was his name... Kirun, you said? Your Lunarion? He is from New Island, correct?" "Yeah- wait, you know about New Island? The Pokémon there?" Dr. Midura laughed, and leaned closer. "I helped create them." Novoni looked at him, speechless. Ok. He's crazy. "You think I'm crazy? Well, I won't dispute that, but it's true, although I'm ashamed to admit it. You've met Mewthree? Yes? Heh, yes, Mewthree and I go back a ways. You know, obviously, that he was created to be like the original Mewtwo, but a bit more 'controllable'. His powers were refined after many years, and the result seemed perfect. So, naturally, the lead scientists found a flaw- Mewthree, unlike Mewtwo, had natural compassion, more akin to the original Mew's instincts. This wouldn't do for a fighting machine, and that, along with some other 'flaws,' sentenced Mewthree to death. "Of course, there was a small group of us that didn't like that idea. So we helped him escape into the secret, underground tunnels. They led up into the forests on the cliffs of New Island, so he could live there in secret. The other Pokémon that eventually came to inhabit that area were mutated species from genetically-created Pokémon. "When the leaders found out that someone had disrupted their plans, well, they didn't take kindly to that at all. And Sunrise helped me stay low for a while, then. We'd been affiliated before, but they really helped me out that time. I'm unsure of what happened that got you to New Island, but I am happy to hear that Mewthree is doing well." Novoni nodded, absorbing this new information. It helped explain her father's unusually long absenses, as well as the visiting Vollav Trainers she remembered from her childhood. But something else was still bothering her. "Why don't you want me to go to Zeralis? Don't act like that's not what you mean, because I think it is. They have a new League now, and I was planning on going, but... why don't you want me to? Does it have to do with this," she asked, holding up the orb. Her father took the orb, looked it over for a minute, and handed it back to her. "You're right, I'm not sure it's a great idea, but for more than one reason that I can't go into right now. You'll be at the Orange Islands league sooner than you think, I would guess, and after that you have the whole world to explore. Why not revisit Johto? There was another Suicune sighting, you know. All I'm asking is for you to think about it. You've already been back to Zeralis now, and how did you enjoy that? I think, as long as the deities are roaming free, it won't be the best place to be around." Novoni sighed. "But if they are in fact being released, then I will be there. I think with this," she said, indicating the orb again. "I don't have much of a choice." "You always have a choice." "Ok, maybe, but maybe not the right choice. The best choice. I... I don't know. I don't know enough of what's going on. I'm not sure I want to." "I'm not sure if anyone does," her father said quietly. Novoni ignored this comment, and looked down at Lyranya. The Aureon had been sitting quietly under the table. She sighed. So much for making a gym challenge today. She'd be far too distracted now. Her father seem to notice this, and pushed a mug in front of her. "Coffee?" [do not reply please] |

It was early the next morning, and Novoni was walking quietly around the outskirts of the city. Her father had suggested she train a bit in the crystal caves while searching for a legendary crystallized Onix of some sort. Deciding she had nothing better to do, she reached the caves after a short walk, and stood in the entranceway. The caves were very large, and went very deep into the earth, but they were still light due to the crystals covering the ceilings and walls reflecting the sunlight deep into the cave. Supposedly, the Onix lived in a lake deep withing the caves, and she could hear water dripping from cracks in the cave's ceiling. She stepped inside, picked a tunnel, and began slowly walking deeper in the caverns. |

Novoni noticed the Pokémon in the caves were unusually aggressive, but she supposed that's why it had been suggested as a good training spot. Recalling Fern, who seemed unusually startled by the snake, for being so much larger than it, she dropped another Pokeball in front of her, and the large figure of an Absogno emerged. Solia took a moment to stretch, and darted forward almost before Novoni finished saying, "Crunch!" |

Solia made quick work of the snake ghost, and strode confidently down the tunnel. Novoni motioned for Lyranya to follow, and the three continued on, but it wasn't long before a flickering light caught their attention, and a Phantern emerged from the darkness, holding two small fireballs in its hands. Solia glanced back at Novoni, and she nodded, giving the Absogno permission to start the battle. She didn't bother giving a command, as Solia was already darting towards the ghost with her fangs bared, ready for another Crunch attack. |

Novoni was pleased that Solia was able to scale back her power for a weaker attack. She had been a bit worried that the dark Pokémon would be too eager to go all-out at the first chance, but the Absogno had proved her wrong. She smiled. "Great, now, you can go for a more powerful slash," she said. |

Novoni plucked an orange-red Pokémon with a flame engraved on the top- an Ember Ball, and thought for a moment. Something about this Infermata had caught her interest, and after seeing it try to battle with Solia, she decided it wouldn't be fair to let Solia continue battling with it; her next attack had been much more powerful. So she tossed the flame-colored ball at the feline, nodding to Solia to stand down. |

Fern went all out ape on the little Wombol who then rolled down a sloped tunnel. Fern gains 10 exp You suddenly heard a splash coming from the tunnel where the Wombol had rolled. The tunnels were nearly devoid of water and the Crystal Onix was supposed to live in a large lake in the depths of the tunnel so it had to be close. You followed the tunnel and saw the Wombol climbing out of a large lake, huge crystals lined the walls and floor, causing the lake to be brightly lit. Suddenly something beneath the surface of the lake caused a ripple to form and then a small horn protruded from the surface and began to speed towards the shore. Suddenly the horn burst forth and with it a giant body and head made entirely of crystal. The Onix let out a roar then turned its attention to you. It's Crystal body was glittering brightly in the light of the crystals on the walls. (35)  123/123

Novoni jumped back when the Onix emerged from the water, and stared at the large snake Pokémon. She smiled. It was truly an impressive Pokémon; its crystalline body sparkled and reflected light even more brilliantly than the crystals surrounding the lake. Fern walked up beside her, watching the Onix as well. It let out a low, rumbling growl that shook the cavern. "Heh, that's a challenge if I ever heard one, wouldn't you say, Fern?" Novoni asked. The Koalyptus raised its large paws in front of him and growled in response. "Ok, then, that settles it. Let's begin with a Stun Spore!" |

Novoni watched the large snake carefully. Hopefully the paralysis would take effect, allowing Fern to get in at least one good hit; she'd decided she would try to capture this rare Pokémon, after all, it was still a ground type, and could prove helpful against the electric type gym leader she'd heard about on Sunburst. Novoni thought for a moment, then recalled Fern. In his place, she released Panja, and the blue Apollyon eyed his opponent carefully. He seemed to relax, though, when he realized Onix was still suffering from the paralysis, and he turned to Novoni. "Alright, Panja, let's try a Corona Ring. That should be able to weaken it just a bit more," she said, already tossing a spare Pokeball in her hand. ooc: 22-25 |

Novoni clicked the Pokeball to expand it and tossed it over Panja's head, directly at the large snake. Fortunately, it was quite a large Pokémon, so she didn't have to worry too much about aiming. |

After another long walk (but fortunately no more wild Pokémon), Novoni made it out of the crystalline caves, and headed back into the main city. She tossed the Onix's Pokeball in her hand as she sat on a bench outside the Pokémon center. A ground type would have been the perfect counter to an electric gym, but this Onix's crystal skin seemed to give it different properties than a normal ground or rock type, so who was to say that it was still immune to electric attacks? Riogua was sitting by a fountain not too far away. You said it was an electric gym? Novoni looked up. "Yeah, so you might have to sit this one out..." Riogua rolled her eyes, but shrugged. I suppose so. But who will you use? "Well, Fern'll be able to resist electric attacks, and Kirini will, too, so I'll have them, and then I guess we'll just go for an all-offensive strategy with Aruna, Panja, and Solia. I'll come get you right after the match is over." Good. Although it will be nice to see Draether and Flarios, at least, The water Pokémon said. Novoni nodded, and recalled her. She walked into the Pokémon center to make her team changes, and then headed for the gym. The gym field on which the battle would take place was large, with lightning rods and wires all around the perimeter, either as decoration or battling purposes, Novoni wasn't sure. General Lex, the gymleader, stood opposite the field holding a dumbbell weight in each hand. A Nebulion was dozing nearby, and this surprised Novoni; the Ion family had certainly grown in popularity since being officially 'discovered' nearly a year ago. "You lookin' for a gym battle?" the General called from across the field. Novoni nodded. "Good! We're ready! This gym is serious business, so you'd better be, as well, young whippersnapper!" Uh... Ok, Novoni thought, and stepped forward to her place on the field. "Ah, I see you know that you can wait to see the Leader's Pokémon. Clever. Very well then, I'll begin with Bizzap!" the General said. He wheezed once, and then released the large, electric bug, whose antennae glowed and sparked with electricity as it emerged. Novoni smiled slightly, and reached for a Pokeball. "Aruna, you're up! Let's begin with a Flamethrower!" she said. She'd tied a piece of special charcoal around the Clarimata's paw earlier, above the gold cuff, knowing that it would allow her fire attacks to be even more powerful- perfect for a gym battle. |

Kirini emerged, and the Nebulion across the field now opened one eye slightly. ooc: I'm guessing you meant that the damage on Nebulion should be on Toxicell. "Great job, Kirini!" Novoni cheered. The Nebulion's psychic attack had prevented the Toxicell from attacking, leaving it wide open for another Extrasensory, and Kirini seemed to know that, too; Novoni could almost see her grin slightly. "That's it, finish it with another Extrasensory," she called to the psychic Pokémon, who nodded and prepared another attack. |

ooc: hahaha. Thanks. As much as Novoni would have liked to see Kirini go up against another Nebulion, she held up a Pokeball and recalled her. General Lex still had a few more Pokémon after this one, and if worse came to worse, Kirini would be able to take their electric attacks while dishing out her psychic ones. She selected another Pokeball and tossed it in front of her. Solia emerged, large and imposing, across from the General's Nebulion, and bared her sharp teeth. "Solia, it's gonna move quickly. (40)  159/159 (Charged-Negative)(41) 151/151Unfortunately Nebulion sent two large sparks into the air which began to spin around before coming together to form a large sparking blue orb which it then hurled through the air at Solia, it struck the dark type but didn't seem to do much to the dark typed Pokémon. But then the effects of the attack came into play as Solia tried to attack and was unable to open its mouth to use Crunch. |

"Solia? What's wrong?" Novoni wasn't sure what sort of attack Nebulion had used, but somehow, it had prevented Solia from attacking. This was agitating the Absogno, too, but whenever she moved to lunge or swing a paw at the Nebulion, blue sparks crackled all around her. Odd.... it must be a sort of electric disable... Novoni thought. She watched the two Pokémon for a bit longer. Nebulion only had electric and psychic moves at its disposal, and Absogno wasn't even effected by the latter, which meant that the odds of the Nebulion attacking her with an electric attack were pretty high. But if she sent out a different Pokémon to take the electric attack instead... "Solia, return!" she shouted suddenly, holding up her Pokeball. Even as the red beam was absorbing the Absogno, Novoni had clicked open another Pokémon to release her own Nebulion again. Kirini would be battling her doppleganger after all. "'Rini, Extremespeed!" |

ooc: Oops, sorry, Kirini's at level 51, dunno if that'll change a whole lot, but I forgot to update my sig. Novoni smiled. It wasn't the most effective attack, but it was at least much more effective than the other Nebulion's. Kirini had become incredibly powerful on her own on Lightning Island, she had been lucky to find her. "Great, Kirini! Extremespeed again!" she shouted. The two Nebulion were already moving quickly, and all she could see were yellow and violet blurs. |

She thought for a moment as the Koalyptus and Volphin faced each other. A pool had opened up in the middle of the field where the trademark Pokeball symbol on the floor had been, and the Volphin had quickly jumped in as soon as the floor had opened to reveal the pool. "Alright, Fern, we'd better start with Leech Seed," she said. |

But the Volphin was seeded, at least, so it was only a matter of time for the seeds to take their toll. She'd just have to ensure that her Pokémon could last that long, too. After another moment's thought, she held up Fern's Pokeball. "Fern, come back, I'm not going to risk you yet," she said. As the Koalyptus was absorbed into the Pokeball, another burst of light released Novoni's next Pokémon from the Pokeball in her other hand; it was Panja. The blue Apollyon let out a proud roar as he emerged. Novoni smiled as he then crouched down, ready to attack, and called for a Glittering necklace-powered Corona Ring. |

ooc: Sorry to be a pain, but I checked, and leech seed apparently drains 1/8th of a Pokémon's HP, so it should be draining 25 HP from Volphin, putting him at 103/205, Panja at 161/200, and Fern at 57/155. Pan also has intimidate, although that probably won't do anything with Volphin... Thanks! Novoni frowned as she saw sparks of electricity crackle around Panja as he recovered his stance. Paralysis.... just their luck. "Pan, you Ok?" she shouted to the Apollyon. He gave her a small nod and bared his teeth. Well, if he still wants to battle, he can for a bit. The seeds are at least helping, and if worse comes to worse, I've got five more Pokémon to switch to... she thought, quickly trying to form a plan. "Alright, Panja, listen up! You don't need to move to launch your Corona Ring, so just charge it up and wait for Volphin to appear to attack. You can do it!" she called. It would be risky, as it also left Panja wide open to any of the attacks Volphin launched, as well, but it was their best shot. |

Novoni recalled Panja as the Thunderos appeared. The Apollyon had worked very hard, but was left tired out from the Volphin's powerful attacks. She mentally went over her remaining Pokémon quickly. Fern had been weakened by the Volphin as well, Kirini had already battled two Pokémon, Solia was weak to light attacks, Aruna had at least expended almost no energy in her first battle, and Aureon hadn't even battled at all yet. She reached for the Aureon's Pokeball... Or what she thought was the Aureon's Pokeball. But the Pokeball was blue- a Great Ball. She quickly realized her mistake; she must have accidentally withdrawn one of the new Pokémon for which she'd traded after checking each of them instead. So that meant Aruna was left. She grabbed the Clarimata's Pokeball and tossed it forward as the field above the Volphin's pool closed again. "Let's finish this gym battle the way we started it, Aruna! Flamethrower!" |

The Thunderos was likely to charge again. Aruna wouldn't be able to dodge out of the way in her current shape, but she could at least use the close-range to her advantage, even with paralysis. "It's alright, Aruna, you can do this! Stay where you are, and get that Thunderos with an Energyball to end this!" she called. |
