This is a guide to the more complex things you may encounter while playing. Please note that this guide is still under construction. Current Version: V0.8 (1/26/10) Non-Battle Updates Often referred to as 'Chitang-style updates' by the staff, these types of updates involves the updater posting a task/challenge/obstacle/something else that the player must overcome. You are usually permitted to use Pokémon to help them to solve the problem, but sometimes, you will be unable to reach your Pokémon. Here's an example of an update you might receive: There are plenty of valid replies, but here's a sample: An updater would then post telling you whether or not you are successful, and would then give you your next obstacle/challenge, or even trigger a battle. These types of updates can be given randomly by updaters at any time, but there are some specific sidequests that focus on this type of adventuring, specifically 'Mystery of the Grapefruit Thief!'. Secondary Player Classes Once you reach Mikan Island, you will be given the option to choose a secondary class for your player. We currently have three different options to choose from, or if you'd like, you don't have to choose one at all. Coordinators: In five currently unselected cities across the Orange Islands will be Contests. The contests will consist of two phases: 1) In one turn, you must dazzle the judges with a combination of moves and style. Your Pokémon's appeal will be higher depending on its level, happiness, the moves used, how well the moves you used flow together, and more. In order to move onto the next round, you must receive a Total Appeal Score of at least 22 (each judge can give up to 10). 2) The rest of the contest will be conducted as a tournament, with the eight highest scorers from the last round moving on. The opponents the players face can have just about any Pokémon within certain level restrictions, allowing for a unique experience for every player. The overall winner of the contest will receive a ribbon named for the location of the contest, a cash prize, and possibly a TM. Once the player acquires five ribbons, they will be permitted to enter the Grand Festival, which consists of one appeal round and a thirty-two player tournament afterwards, with half of the original sixty-four entries eliminated after the appeal round. Breeders: The Breeder's job is to have their Pokémon in tip top shape. Breeder's Pokémon will be given a maximum happiness of 500, rather than the usual 255 (Pokémon evolutions will happen at 255 instead of 500). In select cities, they will be able to participate in Breeder Shows, where they will first show off their Pokémon, which will be rated depending on its happiness. Afterwards, the Pokémon will battle against other Pokémon of the same species. Prizes include ribbons (not the same as Contest ribbons), cash, and occasionally a TM. Outside of Breeder Shows, breeders have a multitude of options. They have the ability to purchase different kinds of brushes, which are sold at Breeder Shows. Each brush is ranked depending on how much happiness it adds. Each brush has a preset number uses, and is marked in the Item section of a profile like so: Items: PokeDex Upgrade, Pokeball x3, Brush x4, Jade Brush x2 A brush can be sold to other players as well. The entire brush must be sold, not just its uses (so if you have two brushes, each one is listed separately in your profile). However, when a Breeder uses a brush, their Pokémon receives 5 more happiness points than if another class uses a brush. There will also be other breeding accessories added in the near future. Rangers: In select cities, there will be missions for the Rangers to embark on. They will be transported to a new location and will be given an objective. They will not conduct any battles on the way to the objective, but will instead have a Chitang-Event style adventure. In every moderator update, they must include the visible wild Pokémon in range, so that the Ranger may use his/her Styler to use them to help. But everytime the Ranger uses their Styler, they'll gain a bit of Fatigue, with each gain reducing their energy, and therefore, their chances of a successful Style. Ranger Missions will either end with a Pokémon Battle, or with a large objective to be completed (putting out a fire, preventing a flood, etc.). Prizes for completion will include promotions, cash, and occasionally a TM. Outside of Ranger Events, Rangers may also be permitted to use their Styler once per route. Basically, they can recruit a wild Pokémon to help them. Wild Pokémon will possess one of three abilities: 1) Lower the requirements to leave the route. 2) Assist in the tracking of a wild Pokémon that the Ranger wants to capture (75% success rate). 3) Battle against another Pokémon. Pokémon recruited this way can only battle other wild Pokémon. Chase Battles This type of battle occurs when a Pokémon or team of Pokémon has to chase another Pokémon or team of Pokémon. Some gyms or events may use this battling style, and updaters can also start a battle of this kind in your adventure. Instead of Hit Points, the Pokémon or team of Pokémon being chased will have a Distance, which represents its distance from you (no duh!). Distance is identical to HP otherwise. In a two-on-two chase battle, the team being chased will have a singular distance consisting of the combined HP of the Pokémon on the team. When the chasing team attacks, they must choose one of the Pokémon being chased to attack. The chasing team has normal health per Pokémon. You must hit the Pokémon being chased with attacks to slow it down, until it is close enough to hit with a physical attack (ex: Aerial Ace), which is an auto-win. At a distance of 100, you can hit it with status attacks (ex: Thunder Wave, Screech). At a distance of 15 or lower, physical attacks will hit. At any distance above 100, only special attacks (ex: Flamethrower) will hit. At a distance of 200 or greater, the power of these attacks is halved, due to the amount of space between you and and the Pokémon being chased. If any Pokémon is paralyzed, their respective team will lose 50 distance every turn (so if the team being chased is paralyzed, the distance reduces by 50 every turn, and for every Pokémon on your team that's out and paralyzed, the distance will go up by 50 every turn). The team being chased can use any attack in its arsenal, regardless of distance from you. Hey, they're the ones running, they can decide how fast they run from you! There are currently a number of terrains that chases can take place on:
Follower Pokémon At the end of every battle when you have a follower Pokémon selected, it has a chance of randomly picking up an item from a pre-prepared list. These items include berries, special pokeballs, hold items and TMs, not to mention the rarest of all: The Shining Leaf. You are still allowed to have Pokémon out of their pokeball in a story sense. That has nothing to do with this mechanic. If you DO wish to use this mechanic you must state so clearly. Rules: 1. The mechanic cannot be used until you’ve defeated your rival for the first time. Furthermore, you will also only gain berries until you reach Valencia Island. 2. At the start of a new adventure thread, you can specify that you wish to assign one of your party Pokémon follower status. This must be done before anything else. You cannot pick one at any other point in the thread. You also cannot change your choice or deposit the chosen Pokémon. You have to stick with it all the way. 2. a) If you are returning to a previous thread, you can make a choice in your first new post of that thread. Attempting to exploit this system will result in punishment. Try and keep this clear. Something along the lines of “I would like my Swablu to be a Follower Pokémon” rather than “John sent out his Swablu to stretch its wings.” 3. Each wild Pokémon battle you engage in must start with the follower Pokémon being sent out. You may immediately withdraw it if you wish, but that first round must have it being sent out. 3. a) When in towns, trainer battles not related to the story must also start with the follower Pokémon. This is only in town, on the routes, trainer battles can be started with any Pokémon. This means that Gym/Rival battles or Team event battles are exempt from this rule. 4. At the end of each battle you must tell the mod you have a follower Pokémon. Staff are not required to check. They will then check to see if you get an item, and if so what item, and include it in a reply. If you forget to do this, it is not the staff’s fault, it is yours. 4. a) Some may take this to meaning staff won’t check certain things, and therefore try to exploit the system and not start battles with the follower Pokémon when they should. If you are caught doing this, you will be punished. In Short: Pros: Chance of getting free items. Cons: Can’t change the Pokémon. Can’t deposit the Pokémon. The Pokémon must be used first in wild Pokémon battles [on routes]. The Pokémon must be used first in non-story trainer battles [in towns]. Edited by Trainer X, Jan 26 2010, 10:07 PM.
